What exactly does mental health mean?
Mental health is defined by the WHO a state of well-being in which a person is able to fulfill his or her abilities, cope with the normal stresses of life, work productively and contribute to his or her community. The complex thing is that one's psyche is often more difficult to grasp than one's physical well-being. Almost everyone knows how to keep their body fit. There are many offers and possibilities that make it easy to train your body and take care of it. We help you with little tips and tricks to take care of your own psyche and to strengthen your mental health.
How do I take care of my mental health?
First of all, it is important that you know your own strengths and respects your personal limits. Especially in today's world, where so much is trimmed to perfection and performance, it is easy to lose sight of your own strengths and limits. Or they are ignored. Many people do not know their own needs. Knowing this, however, is essential in order to be able to take care of one's own psyche. Have you ever asked yourself if what you are doing is what you really want? Do you know what you need and what is good for you? Do you know your own talents and desires? And can you live them out? Ask yourself what robs you of the most energy. Or vice versa, what gives you energy back? There is no right or wrong here, because the psyche is as individual as you are. Try to find out what your needs are, because only if you know and understand them can you actively work towards them.
Examples of individual needs are
Do you feel good outdoors, in the forest and in nature? If this gives you energy, try to incorporate regular walks in the fresh air into your daily routine.
Do you like to be with people and enjoy spending a sociable evening together because it really fulfills you? Then get together with your loved ones regularly and try to incorporate these moments into your daily routine.
Tips and tricks to strengthen your mental health
Of course, there is no cookbook with recipes that always work. Mental health is individual and everyone defines strong mental health for themselves. Nevertheless, there are some tips that you can incorporate into your everyday life:
Relax actively
Discover the different methods of relaxation techniques, ranging from yoga to autogenic training, muscle relaxation, breathing exercises or meditation. You will be most successful if you practise these exercises regularly, because here too, as often, practice makes perfect. Do you need additional motivation? These exercises are also great to do in a group. Grab your friends and meet up with them regularly so you can work on your mental health together.
Look to yourself
Consciously take time for yourself. Look at yourself and accept and allow your weaknesses. Reward yourself when you succeed in something and try to be as understanding with yourself as you are with others. Because most of the time you are much stricter with yourself.
Be balanced
Even when life goes haywire. Try to create your own "flow". Flow moments are moments in which you forget everything around you and become completely absorbed in what you are doing. This can be exciting work, yoga, music or cooking. Find your own flow.
The glass is half full
Try to see the positive in life. Something doesn't work for you right away? Are you facing a problem you can't solve? Try to see the positive in these moments. You can learn from mistakes - if something goes wrong, you have learned how to do it better or more efficiently the next time. Try to approach a problem creatively, then you will suddenly come up with completely new approaches to solving it.
Accept your problems and weaknesses
Being weak and having problems? That is quite normal. Try to accept your weaknesses. Stand by them. Because your weaknesses also make you the person you are. Weaknesses can help you to develop and actively work on yourself. Admitting your weaknesses also makes you closer and more authentic.
Changes are part of life
Does life suddenly go in a different direction? Everything starts all over again? Try to accept these situations as well. Of course, these situations can sometimes overwhelm you, that is completely normal. However, if you accept that such changes are part of life, you can learn and grow from such events and situations.
Talk therapy can also strengthen your mental health.
But what if you still can't get ahead of yourself? That is quite normal and no reason to worry. Have you ever thought about strengthening your mental health with outside help? If despite the tips and tricks mentioned above, you still feel that you could do more to improve your mental health, talk therapy can help.
