The systemic form of therapy is in most cases a short-term form of therapy, which means that with most therapists no more than three sessions are necessary to achieve long-term and long-lasting results.
In systemic therapy, you as a client are not seen primarily as a "sick patient" who needs to be cured, but as a partner who constructs new realities and solutions to "old" problem patterns together with the therapist. A systemic therapy at WePractice in Switzerland is therefore - more than any other form of therapy - determined by humor, cheerfulness and optimism. It is not so much about wallowing in problems as it is about finding individual and "custom-fit" solutions. You will hear questions in systemic therapy that you have never asked yourself before, questions that suddenly create so-called "aha-moments The "universal key" lies in building self-worth and self-efficacy in contextual areas: Me as a person, in relationships with others, and Me as a person of competence in my job, studies, etc.
What exactly is systemic therapy?
A system is a closed, operant, self-organizing structure, so to speak a human being in its wholeness: his body, mind and psyche, the social environment, his behavior, his abilities, his world view and beliefs and also his spiritual dimension (creed, religion etc.)
A system is not determined by its parts, but by the form of relationships in the system: by its structures and interactions. A system is characterized by the following features:
It is more than the sum of its individual elements
There are interactions between the elements
Complex systems are self-organized
Complex living systems cannot be planned or predicted in their behavior.
Family Constellations:
Often in systemic therapy also so-called "constellations" are made, this consists of elements such as figures or building blocks, which serve as a proxy for the people in your environment, and are set up on a board, based on these constellations you see very quickly unfavorable structures and get a so-called "aha moment" in a flash, because you realize what has a favorable and/or less favorable impact on your own life. The great thing about the constellations is that you get a view of the system "from above" (meta position), this system can be viewed from different angles and thus also understood. Through this process of awareness, inner-psychic processes rearrange themselves in a flash and the brain gets the opportunity to "restructure".
For which challenges is systemic therapy particularly suitable?
Numerous researches come to the following areas in which systemic therapy is particularly effective:
Eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, obesity, binge eating, and many more).
Schizophrenia
Psychotic traits
ADHD/ADS
occupational problems
Self-esteem problems
Severe trauma
War crimes
Post-traumatic stress disorder
Sexual abuse
Depressive moods
Sleep disorders
Separation / relationship conflicts
desire to have children
obsessive-compulsive disorders / neuroses
anxieties
Bedwetting
Psychosomatic complaints
Addiction and dependence
Test anxiety
Performance problems
Bullying
Sexual dysfunctions
Difficulties in teamwork
Financial difficulties/financial coaching
The systemic form of therapy as well as the cognitive behavioral therapy has a significantly lower relapse rate in the above-mentioned problems and is now one of the most applied methods for the above-mentioned problems in the USA and in some European countries.
What else is important about systemic therapy?
We as systemic therapists at WePractice have a requirement of ourselves as well as the process that it be a constructive, clarifying and enlightening session.
Most clients who have seen a systemic therapist at WePractice reported the following after their first session:
"I feel like I am finally being understood".
"Nothing is imposed on me, but I can show up and stay in the process in a self-determined way"
"I have already been able to shed so much emotional baggage here"
"I go home feeling optimistic. I feel that I am on the right path to the solution, even if I don't know exactly how yet"
"My therapist at WePractice made me curious about my strengths and competencies"
And the most commonly heard phrase from clients:
"You are the first person who has taken an interest not only in my problems, but also in my strengths and resources!"
Systemische Therapie kann in Einzel- Paar- oder Gruppentherapien stattfinden, wobei meiner Meinung nach in den Gruppentherapien die besten Dynamiken entstehen und man gemeinsam Lösungen kreativ kreieren kann.
Systemic therapy can take place in individual, couple or group therapies, although in my opinion the best dynamics emerge in group therapies and solutions can be creatively created together.
The limits of systemic therapy:
Caution: do not go to a systemic therapist if you still want to keep your problem and not make a change.
There is no royal road to healing, above all there is no path you are not allowed to follow yourself, do not expect concrete patent remedies, for problem A there is no solution A, but only an individual solution suitable for you. Your cooperation is always needed, and as mentioned above: "You are the master of the process".
