Hypnotherapy, also called guided hypnosis, is a form of psychotherapy that uses relaxation, extreme concentration, and intense attention to achieve a heightened state of consciousness or mindfulness. In other words, it puts the person into an altered state of consciousness.
This form of therapy is considered alternative medicine, with the goal of using one's mind to reduce or alleviate a variety of problems, such as psychological issues, phobias, and unhealthy, destructive, or dangerous habits (e.g., smoking and/or drinking). The goal of hypnotherapy is to bring about a positive change in a person while they are in a state of 'trance' or a state of relaxed concentration.
The new perspective gained can help people see real-life situations, feelings and events in a 'different light' - for example, relationship problems, nervousness or stage fright, conflicts at work and even chronic pain.
